Our Firm

The Firm
The Firm was started in 1987 under the name Iseme & Company Advocates.
It changed its name to Iseme, Kamau & Company Advocates in 1993 and to Iseme, Kamau & Maema Advocates in 2000. In 2002, the Firm merged with Kamau Karori & Company Advocates.
In February 2010, IKM (as the Firm is commonly known) entered into an alliance with top ranked international legal practice, DLA Piper, which has over 4,200 lawyers located in 30 countries and 76 offices. In May 2011 DLA Piper was ranked #1 among the world’s leading global law firms in the Law 360 Global, a leading online source for legal news and analysis. Whilst the alliance is exclusive, other international firms remain free to work with and refer work to IKM.
In October 2010, IKM and 3 other Eastern African law firms: Ishengoma, Karume, Masha & Magai (“IMMMA”) of Tanzania, Sebalu & Lule Advocates (“S&L”) of Uganda and Equity Juris Chambers (“EJC”) of Rwanda established Juris East Africa (“JEA”) an alliance dedicated to providing co-ordinated legal services to regional and international businesses across Eastern Africa. In 2011 JEA incorporated Rubeya & Company Advocates of Burundi. IKM and IMMMA are members of the DLA Piper Group. S&L,EJC and Rubeya & Co are preferred firms of DLA Piper Group in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi respectively.
