David Njama Lekerai
David Lekerai joined IKM in 2009 and serves in the Commercial and Tax Departments.
He undertook his pupillage in the firm of Okoth & Kiplagat Advocates and later joined the Kenya Revenue Authority (“KRA”) as a tax graduate trainee in 2006 where he underwent comprehensive training in tax practice in Kenya covering all applicable tax law regimes including income tax, VAT, customs and excise matters.
David subsequently joined the KRA Legal Department specialising in tax dispute resolution by handling tax cases before the VAT Tribunal(s), the Income Tax Local Committee(s) and the High Court before joining us.
David’s areas of specialization include tax compliance and advisory, tax planning and setting out implementation plans for restructuring exercises, tax reviews and review of KRA audit findings, responding to KRA audits, lodging objections and appeals and following up the process all the way to the VAT Tribunal(s), Local Committee(s) and the High Court; general tax and tax compliance matters; incorporation of companies, societies, trusts and business names and preparing and filing related resolutions and returns; preparation of commercial agreements; obtaining work permits on behalf of foreign clients; estate planning, probate & administration; carrying out research and giving opinions to local and international clients on different aspects of tax and commercial law; conducting due diligence in various transactions; preparation and registration of Powers of Attorney; and labour law.
