William Ikutha Maema - IKM Partner

William Maema graduated from the University of Nairobi’s Faculty of Law in 1990 and proceeded to the Kenya School of Law where he obtained a Diploma after passing the Council of Legal Education examinations.  He was admitted to the Roll of Advocates on 22nd August, 1991. Immediately thereafter, he proceeded to University of Cambridge, U.K., for a Master of Laws Degree in Commercial Law and Intellectual Property where he graduated in June, 1992. He, thereafter, served as a pupil in chambers at Fountain Court Chambers, Inner Temple, and with Clifford Chance, Solicitors, in London before returning to Kenya in November, 1992.

Upon his return to the country William joined the Commercial Department of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews (HHM) as a legal assistant where, for 5 years, he served as an assistant to the Senior Partner, J. D. M. Silvester.  In July, 1997 he became a partner in HHM and continued working in the Commercial Department until 20th March, 2000 when he retired from that partnership and joined the partnership of Iseme, Kamau & Company Advocates which, upon his joining, changed its name to Iseme, Kamau & Maema Advocates.

William specializes in commercial law and intellectual property law and is a member of international professional associations in Intellectual Property such as the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), International Trade Mark Association (INTA) and the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP).
