Amrit Soar is a Partner in the Conveyancing and Bank Securities practice. She has a wealth of experience in the real estate industry as well as in bank security work, having handled countless transactions in her career spanning over 30 years. Amrit handles IKM’s alerts and publications intended to keep clients abreast of developments in the law, and assists with the firm’s training and knowledge management initiatives.

Amrit retired and moved to Toronto, Canada in 2007 where she joined the Canadian business law firm of Fraser Milner Casgraine LLP (now Dentons Canada LLP). While in Canada, she was actively involved in the setting up of the Internationally Trained Lawyers Programme (ITLP) run by the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Amrit continues to make contributions to the programme. She joined IKM in 2011 as a Consultant in the Conveyancing and Bank Securities practice, and in 2013 became a partner. She also spearheads the firm’s training and knowledge management initiatives.

Career

Amrit has a wealth of experience having acted for both local and international banks and financial institutions in many high-value and complex transactions. She was admitted as an Advocate in 1983 and spent 18 years with the law firm of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews in Nairobi heading its Real Estate and Probate practice.

  • Acted for several banks in the review and preparation of template security documents to be adopted by the various advocates on the bank panels.
  • Represented leading real estate investment companies and property developers in the acquisition and development of commercial and residential developments.
  • Acted for a number of foreign embassies, High Commissions and diplomatic missions in Kenya in the purchase and leasing of properties which currently house their missions and chanceries.
