Key experience

  • Involved in the preparation, review and perfection of immigration documents together with the filing and registration of the same, and acts for clients such as IBM, General Electric and Coca Cola.
  • Acted for a number of international organisations in setting up local branches and subsidiaries in Kenya. These assignments involved advising on the registration of local entities as well as the preparation and filing of the relevant documents. Christine has also acted for various local companies in ensuring compliance with reporting requirements under the Companies Act.
  • Co-ordinated the registration of trademarks for local and international clients in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi and Ethiopia, as well as the registration of patents under the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO).
  • Assisted one of the local banks in the registration of trademarks for its new banking products.
  • Represented a large local plastic manufacturing company in the registration of their industrial designs at the Kenya Industrial Property Institute.
  • Involved in the expungement of two trademarks that were infringing on our client’s well -known trademarks.
  • Involved in the negotiation between a client, a pharmaceutical company and its local distributor regarding the application by the distributor to register a trademark which in the client’s opinion is similar to one of its registered trademarks. The client was seeking an undertaking that the distributor shall withdraw its application (and any future use of the proposed mark) as registration of the trade mark is contrary to one of the terms of the distributorship agreement between the client and the distributor.
  • Involved in a copyright and trademark infringement matter where the client’s logo was being used by a local bar and restaurant. The brief included preparation of cease and desist letters, updating the client, and following up on the removal of the infringing logo from the bar and restaurant. The matter was successfully concluded out-of-court.
  • Involved in a domain infringement matter in which a cyber-squatter registered a domain name bearing our clients name and attempted to sell the domain to the client. The brief included preparation of cease and desist letters, updating the client, following up with the domain registrar and following up on the removal of the transfer of the domain name to the client. The matter was successfully concluded out-of-court.
