Jane Wangari is an Associate in the Conveyancing and Bank Securities practice at IKM. Jane’s areas of focus are conveyancing, real estate and bank securities. She has acted for various clients, including public sector entities, corporate bodies, commercial lenders and individuals.

Career

Jane began her legal career in January 2012 as a Pupil at Karanja Njenga Advocates, and was appointed as an Associate to the firm’s Conveyancing/Bank Securities Department in November 2012 upon her admission to the Bar. She rose through the ranks and was the Head Associate in that firm’s Conveyancing/Bank Securities Department up until September 2014. Jane briefly joined the firm of Kibuchi & Company Associates in October 2014 before joining IKM in their Conveyancing and Bank Securities practice in January 2015. She is now wholly dedicated to this practice area.

  • Advised at least 14 commercial banks in Kenya on security documentation, including loan agreements, reviewing and advising on offer letters, drafting charges, mortgages, guarantees and debentures of varying amounts.
  • Advised various clients, including property developers, owners of commercial buildings and individuals on the division and amalgamation of properties. These transactions involve negotiating, preparing and approving terms corporate persons in the purchase and sale of various properties (commercial, residential and agricultural); extension of leasehold terms; sale agreements, preparing transfers, approving leases, registering transfers, leases and security documents at the Land Office and generally advising the clients on legal issues arising thereof.
  • Advised clients with a variety of conveyancing and commercial transactions that entail the preparation and perfection of bank security documents on behalf of banks; the preparation and registration of transfer of land; leases; charges; mortgages; reconveyances; discharge of charges; caveats; cautions; extensions of government leases; Powers of Attorney; incorporation and registration of companies, societies, trusts and business names; and preparing and filing various resolutions relating to the said legal entities.
