Tabitha Weru is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution practice at IKM. She has a keen interest in corporate and Ccommercial law, and employment and labour relations litigation.

Tabitha has been involved in a number of complex matters locally and internationally, including commercial litigation involving banks and multinational companies, various construction arbitration disputes as well as various employment and labour relations disputes defending various companies.

  • Assisted a partner in an arbitration dispute between employees of an international airline and a developer with regard to the construction, completion and handover of some residential houses.
  • Assisted a partner in a dispute arbitration between a developer and an international foundation involving the construction of a hospital in one of Kenya’s counties.
  • Involved in an action where the firm is defending a multinational audit company in a receivership dispute.
  • Involved in an action where the firm is defending the Government of Kenya from the enforcement of an arbitration award involving millions of Kenyan shillings.
  • Represented various institutions in defending claims relating to employment law, including work injury claims, wrongful dismissal and termination and redundancies. The briefs involve rendering advisory opinions on termination procedures and negotiating out-of-court settlements.
  • Involved in various suits by leading banking institutions seeking to exercise their statutory powers of sale, including defending the institutions from any court challenges arising there from as well as giving opinions on recovery.
  • Currently involved in representing various banks in debt recovery matters both in court and arbitration.
  • Involved in defending companies on various intellectual property rights, especially trademarks.
  • Acted for several banking and financial institutions, insurance companies, private entities and individuals in both prosecuting and defending debt recovery claims. These briefs included advising clients, drawing legal opinions and successfully negotiating out-of-court settlements which are favourable to the client.
  • Acted for several leading insurance companies in prosecuting and defending insurance claims for their insured in road traffic, industrial and medical negligence claims.
  • Involved in litigation in respect of property claims for local authorities and private companies. These briefs included challenging the nullification of title deeds by gazettement by government departments, pursuing vacant possession of client’s appropriated properties by third parties, landlord/tenant disputes, defending local authorities and other public entities against claims arising from demolitions of unauthorised structures, as well as claims arising from botched land transactions and tenancy agreements.
